SECOND COMPANY GOVERNOR'S HORSE GUARD

CELEBRATING 200 YEARS OF HISTORY

4 Wildlife Dr.          Newtown, Ct.          (203) 426-9046

2GHG currently has thirty-one mounts.  Thirty of them have been generously donated by private citizens or stables. They come from many aspects of the equestrian world and before becoming cavalry mounts experienced life as race horses, show horses, pleasure horses, or field hunters. Three of our mounts are mustangs, from the Federal Bureau of Land Management, captured in White Mountain / Skunk Canyon near Rock Springs, Wyoming.

There are large box stalls for each to shelter them in the worst weather, but most of their time is spent enjoying a natural outdoor life style which keeps them extremely healthy. They live in a herd, and for part of the year graze on twenty acres of green grass.  Horses that are no longer able to work are retired on 2GHG property.  Just ask Winnie  “Garwood Windsor”, a Morgan born in 1973, who is retired from parades, but still loves to lead drill on occasion.  The rest of the herd can barely keep up with him!

Horses accepted for donation are 15 hands or taller, sound, and chestnut, brown or black in color.  We do not accept horses over 18 years of age. Please contact the Horse Officer for more information if you are interested in donating a horse. Call (203) 426-9046, or email horseofficer@thehorseguard.com.
